I currently live on Vancouver Island only a block or so away from the Northern end of Georgia Straight, that offers some fine ocean paddling and also some great surf kayak potential that I have yet to explore.
I have been a serious sea kayaker for 30 years, having circumnavigated Vancouver Island in 1984 with my friends Gary Robinson and Dennis Bissegger. Also numerous trips on the British Columbia coast including a solo trip from Prince Rupert to Vancouver , paddling in the Queen Charllottes and too many trips to mention here.
In the early 80s I volonteered and then worked at Nimbus kayaks helping to build the plugs and molds for the Seafarer K2, the Solander and the Seafarer Sprint and learned a little about building great Sitka Spruce paddles.
I think I developed a sence for kayaks when I was a kid paddling plywood paddle boards at my uncles campground on Skaha lake when I was a young kid
I paddle with my kids every summer on the west coast of Vancouver Island, and as often as I can with the moonlight paddlers of the Rivercity, and old friends whenever they can be coaxed out on the water.
What boats do you paddle?
Mostly my Seafarer Sprint, 25 years old now, Seafarer K2 with my daughterand I also have an Orca allmost 30 years old
Paddle brands:
A beautiful 100% Sitka Spruce Nimbus Seawater, that is beautiful to look at , warm in the hands , has a large power face and 218 cm long
Hi, Darcy, & thanks for the nice invite. I'm not real active with my kayaking lately. Lots of family transitions, including two passings and a divorce. My daughter, Lydia, is in some spectacular photos from Patagonia, so thought I'd send you some link that I believe you'll enjoy. I've ordered some prints from the nice photog whe went with, and can't wait to get them. Kindest Regards, Ed McDonald

Hi, Darcy, Thanks for your taking time to share your kind words. I miss Edisto sometimes, and it was interesting to remember some of the kayaking times and put them into words that afficionados might share. Feel free to send it to friends who might enjoy some of the peace of kayaking the backwaters, particularly those along the Carolina Coasts. I'm in Columbia, and don't get to the coast a lot any more. My daughter just returned from back-country Patagonia. She's going to write about the Patagonia Expedition race. Make It A Great One! Ed McDonald
Wow! Beautiful shots of a magnificent area. Looks like life is good for you, as well as family and friends. ~Ed

The HBI crux move is best done at 0345 h ...little temptation, interest, or option of a pint...especially when you know that some sweet flowing water isn't going to wait for you...
