Newbie!! ;) Help!!!

Hey friends...i'm very new to kayaking...just learning to roll...but the obsession is getting to me! I'm looking to outfit myself in my own gear (i'm learning in a friend's great boat). I'm looking forward to meeting lots of new people and having a ton of fun in this great sport. Please feel free to drop me a line with opinions about gear and stuff...I'm a 5'7" female, about 140lbs, looking for a cross between a playboat and a river runner. Any advice about a boat or gear is very welcome! Also, any ideas about fun in my area would be an extra bonus!

Comment by playak on May 12, 2008 at 8:31am: hi marianne, i saw you were posting here and on the playak.com blogs. just thought i'd share that blogs are not the best place to get reactions from people. blogs are great to infrom the wolrd about your progress etc, but in order to get good feedback, you should really try the forums. probably the regional forum for north america is the best one to post in (or maybe the gear forum if you have a more gear specific question):
